Cornell Email - Setting Up My Own Email Address For Professional Students
Just got an annoying email: "You are currently registered at this email address. We've changed our mailing lists and your email address will no longer be used by us. Please contact us immediately to learn more about changes to our Student Conduct Manual and to find out how you can continue to register in this Cornell University email directory." I always try to avoid these kinds of things. Especially when it concerns my school and its reputation. But now I have to think about my email forwarding options and which one I should choose.
I already checked the mailing list and found that the email is only sent to the Inbox of whoever is named on the account. That means I don't have to change my email address or even tell anyone that I am using a Cornell Email service. Also, since I receive my messages through my cell phone, I can use a special feature available with my cellular provider that allows me to sign up for the Cornell Email Service without providing my email address. I'm still registered as I am with the same phone number as I have always been.
The only problem with this option is that I can't access my Cornell Email account from any other computer or smartphone without first accessing the university email system first. This way I can see my most recent messages, but since downloading these messages takes up my cellular data plan, I might not be able to check them for another 2 hours or so. Until I get connected to the Wi-Fi signal in my home, I won't be able to check the email.
Another solution would be to set up a special login page that lets me log into my account whenever I want to. This would be ideal if I was working off site from home, or if I didn't have access to an email forwarding service. With a special login page, though, I can log in anytime and access my Cornell Email account from anywhere. I am still required to provide my user name and password, of course, but I can take advantage of the special features that are available to me while logged in.
Cornell has their own email application that I can log in to using my user name and password. This application uses a unique URL address that I have assigned myself, and it automatically forwards my email to my Cornell University email account. The email forwarding feature is extremely useful for me, because I am able to read my e-mails from anywhere at any time, as long as I have internet access. The application is configured so that I can configure it to send all of my e-mails to my Cornell University email account automatically every day, or whichever day I choose.
If I want to make sure that something is going to be sent to my mail box, I simply log in, enter my user name and password, and then select "forward my email for delivery." With this setting, my e-mail will be automatically sent to my university mail box every day, or whenever I set it up. It's really convenient to be able to setup this so that I don't have to go through the steps of logging in to each site individually. If I don't activate the feature, then it will not send anything to my mail box on certain days like I have scheduled. I just activate it the very next day that I set it up.
I use my Cornell Email Address for everything that I need to do as a professional student working remotely from home. I also use my Cornell Email Address for communicating with the people at the other end of the phone line from where I am making a call. Using the special features of the office 365 service and the unique URL address I have assigned myself, I can talk to my classmates and friends nearly anywhere I can get Internet access. Even if I am out of the country, I can still get in touch with people because they can see my online chat logs.
Cornell University offers one of the best online universities that I have seen anywhere. I have received excellent education at this university and I definitely will not forget all of the help I have been given over the years. With everything that I have accomplished at Cornell, I will always consider this university as a top choice for education.
