University of Houston Clinical Psychology offers students an extensive range of educational opportunities geared toward preparing them for a career in clinical or counseling work. The strengths of this program include its three main research centers: the Center for Integrative Medicine, the Anxiety Disorders Research Center and the Cognitive Development and Psychotherapy Research Center. The University of Houston Clinical Psychology program utilizes cutting edge methods to provide instruction in order to prepare its students for careers in clinical or counseling work. This program will also encompass internship training in order to assist students in gaining clinical experience while acquiring essential skills for successful careers in counseling and clinical psychology work. University of Houston clinical psychology teaches students to deal with emotional issues related to both the mind and body. Emotional issues are a normal part of life but can cause problems when they become overwhelming. This field utilizes many tools and techniques in order to address these issues in a positive manner. In the clinical school there are over 150 graduate students pursuing a variety of degrees related to clinical psychology. Students in the clinical psychology degree program are also given the option of selecting specific dissertation topics which specialize in their particular areas of concentration. Areas of concentration within this program may include: developmental disabilities, eating disorders, children and adolescents, elderly, geropsychology, and counseling. If you are not interested in specializing in any of these areas, you can opt to focus your degree in the general area of clinical psychology.

Another option for students in the University of Houston Clinical Psychology degree program is a minor. A minor in Clinical Psychology allows you to concentrate your studies on a specific area of psychology. Some of the sub-fields of clinical psychology include: cognitive therapy, developmental disabilities, trauma, and couples and families. A minor in Clinical Psychology also allows graduate students to choose from a variety of concentrations which include: geropsychology, behavior therapy, counseling, and counseling-oriented facilities.

Students in the University of Houston Clinical Psychology degree program have the option of pursuing either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology or a Bachelor of Science (BS). A variety of career opportunities exist for those with an overall Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. For example, many individuals have found employment as faculty members at various university or community colleges where they were able to teach specific courses in psychology. Many individuals have also become successful researchers and published research articles that utilize their knowledge in the field of psychology.
